Employees

Employee permits are NOT valid at individual meters, pay-by-plate only lots, university vehicle spaces, loading zones, visitor/patient spaces or unauthorized leased spaces. Vehicles must be parked in designated parking spaces to have valid parking. Permits are not valid during special events. Permits are valid only on vehicles registered to your permit with Parking Services. Your MSU ID will work to open gated lots. If having issues with gate access please contact our office. CALL PARKING SERVICES IF UNABLE TO COMPLETE ONLINE TRANSACTIONS. 

Unless virtual, permits must be properly affixed to the lower left, driver's side of the windshield within two weeks of purchase. Those parked without proper permits displayed are eligible for violations.

 

  

ONLY PERMIT HOLDERS ARE ELIGIBLE TO PARK AND USE A PERMIT’S PRIVILEGES. Unauthorized transfer or use of a permit and/or gate access privileges will result in confiscation and termination of privilege(s) for at least the balance of the registration period. Parking violations may also be issued for unauthorized use of the permit and/or gate access.

Sold online starting 6/1/2023.

Valid July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. This is a repositionable permit that allows multiple vehicles to be registered, but only one on campus at a time. The permit must be displayed on the lower left driver’s side of the windshield of the vehicle that is parked on campus. These permits utilize RFID technology that opens gated lots; you MSU ID will still allow gate access. Full time and academic year (AY) employees are eligible for this permit option. 

  • Full time employees can utilizing payroll deduction at $49 per month. Otherwise the permit can be paid in full.

  • Academic year (AY) employees can utilize payroll deduction at $73.50 per month (AY employees are only payroll deducted September through April). Otherwise the permit can be paid in full.

 

*Please note vehicles on your customer account do not automatically have parking privileges. The vehicle must be connected to an active permit.

Sold online starting 8/1/2023.

Valid August 15, 2023 through May 15, 2024. This is a repositionable permit that allows multiple vehicles to be registered, but only one on campus at a time. The permit must be displayed on the lower left driver’s side of the windshield of the vehicle that is parked on campus. These permits utilize RFID technology that opens gated lots; your MSU ID will still allow gate access.

ONLY academic year (AY) employees are eligible for this permit option. This permit can be paid in full or payroll deducted at $55.13 per month (AY employees are only payroll deducted September through April).

Those not eligible for payroll deduction can prepay for employee parking privileges. Virtual permits valid for up to three months can be ordered online through the permit portal (see the virtual permits tab). Permits can also be purchased in person or via phone; you will need your MSU ID, vehicle registration, and a form of payment. You will also need internet access if purchasing while on the phone.

  • One day – prepay $10
  • One week - prepay $20

  • *Three months - prepay $147

*Permits for 1-3 months can be virtual or physically printed, please specify which you'd prefer at the time of purchase. If you choose a physical permit sticker, the permit must be properly displayed on the lower left driver's side of the windshield within two weeks of purchase to have valid parking on campus.

 

Virtual permits can be purchased online through the permit portal. These permits are active starting the day of purchase. Only one vehicle can be registered to a virtual permit at a time; the connected vehicle can be updated as often as needed. These permits do not auto renew.

Sold online starting 7/20/2023.

Permit is valid only in lot 89 from August 21, 2023 through August 20, 2024. This permit is virtual. Vehicle and plate information must still be accurately maintained with MSU Parking to have parking privileges. CATA bus service is available from lot 89 to the Shaw Ramp/Lot 51 during fall and spring semesters.

If registering ONLY a motorcycle, you must register over the phone with Parking Services. If purchasing a repositionable permit for a car, motorcycles can be registered as a second vehicle – the permit will NOT be physically placed on the motorcycle in this scenario (enforcement will verify the license plate is registered virtually with your employee permit). Motorcycles (over 100CC) are not allowed to park in moped parking spaces, they must park in a regular vehicle space.

Carpool permits are valid July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. They're eligible for use by employees and allow the same parking privileges as individual permits but at a reduced cost. While most employees find carpool partners within their departments or buildings, a locator service is provided through a number of websites. 

The cost of the permit is $24.50 per month per person or $294 per person if paid in-full. Each individual using the permit can decide if they’d like their portion of payment to be prepaid or payroll deducted monthly.

  • Must be purchased in person, this permit is not sold online.

  • One permit will be issued for the entire carpool and only allows one vehicle on campus at a time.

  • Permit must be displayed on the lower left driver’s side of the windshield of the vehicle that is parked on campus.

  • There must be a minimum of two vehicles registered with your carpool. 

  • You must call Parking Services in order to change/remove vehicles and license plate information on your permit record.

Vehicle and Plate Changes

Repositionable Permits: Updating vehicle information or adding a new license plate can be done in the permit portal (under your active permit) or by calling Parking Services. If a windshield is replaced, keep the repositionable permit and place it on the new windshield. If your vehicle is being repaired, then you must move the permit to the loaner vehicle and add the vehicle/plate to the permit privileges either through the portal or by calling the office as mentioned. If your permit is not moved from your primary vehicle to the loaner, please contact Parking Services for next steps prior to parking. IN ADDITION TO HAVING THE DECAL PERMIT DISPLAYED, VEHICLE/PLATE INFORMATION MUST MATCH WHAT IS LISTED ON FILE WITH THE PERMIT TO GRANT PARKING PRVILEGES. VEHICLES ON YOUR CUSTOMER ACCOUNT DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY HAVE PARKING PRIVILEGES.

Printed Permits: If permanently switching to a new vehicle or license plate, a new permit will most likely be needed (as vehicle information is listed on the permit); retain the permit and call Parking Services for next steps. If your vehicle is being repaired, contact Parking Services to inquire about a loaner permit. When contacting us to update/change information, please have the license plate, make, style, year, and color of the vehicle. IN ADDITION TO HAVING THE PERMIT DISPLAYED, VEHICLE/PLATE INFORMATION MUST MATCH WHAT IS LISTED ON THE PERMIT TO GRANT PARKING PRVILEGES.

Virtual Permits: You must call Parking Services to make changes to the vehicle or license plate connected to your permit privileges. Only one vehicle can be connected for parking privileges at a time. VEHICLE/PLATE INFORMATION MUST MATCH WHAT IS LISTED ON FILE WITH THE PERMIT TO GRANT PARKING PRVILEGES.
